The Curious Case of Chris Brown

The hate and support Chris Brown now receives has grown at a feverish rate. First, let's look at the facts:
  • Chris Brown was born May 5, 1989 and is now 20 years old.
  • Chris Brown is a 4-time American Music Award recipient, 3 BET Awards, 3 Billboard Music Awards, 2 NAACP Image Awards, 2 MTV Awards and 4 Teen Choice Awards.
  • Chris Brown was charged with felony assault and making criminal threats. As a result of a plea deal, he was formally sentenced to five years of probation, one year of domestic violence counseling, and six months of community service; the judge retained a five-year restraining order on Brown, which requires him to remain 100 yards away from Rihanna, 10 yards at public events.
As a celebrity his life is cursed to be dissected and analyzed for the rest of his life, and maybe afterward. Until that lil temper tantrum, he was the sh*t. Out of all the Michael Jackson wannabes, people gave him the most props. He had the voice, the skill, and the appeal. He also had a good boy image that wasn't tarnished when people found out he was a man whore on the road. He had Rihanna, one of the hottest chicks in the game (depending on who you ask) and life was good.

Needless to say, this boy's image is f*cked. He is branded a woman beater, no matter if Rihanna had it coming or not. You can claim that she gave him herpes or she broke a television or whatever, he put hands to a woman and that's never right. Considering he's only 20, this is a pretty tough weight to carry for the rest of his public and/or natural life. I've only heard of two people being loved even though they brutalized the woman in their lives: B.I.G. and Pun... and they're dead.

The heat on Chris Brown spread like a California wildfire, but can be divided into two types: 1. anger from people that hate domestic abuse and the men who commit it and 2. hate. I understand the anger with stemming from those women who have had unfortunate experiences. The hate can be expected however. People have been waiting for Chris Breezy to slip for years, when you search for his apology on YouTube, you'll get more spoofs than the actual apology.

I would also say his career is f*cked as well, but this is the interesting part of Chris Brown's dilemma. It seems there is a still a great deal of support for this n*gga. There are the people who love him unconditionally, male and female. There are the women that love him but would kill him in his sleep if he ever put their hands on them. There are people who are ready to forgive him, if they have not already.

Then there are the people who hate Rihanna (Kids Blame Rihanna).

I would say that people should mind their business, but who ever does? In this case, who should? These are two are in the public eye, and there's no sense of privacy for celebrities. Whether Chris or Rihanna expected this much heat is irrelevant. Now they have to pick up the pieces of their images, reputations and careers and keep it moving.

Chris Brown would probably be okay if he stopped apologizing (or attempting to) and stuck to his music. Everyone wants to know why he mushed her face against the window of his Lamborghini door, but no one should know. And avoiding the subject during Larry King doesn't help. The fanatical support, or blistering hate, should calm it down, and people should focus on how he carries his life from here on out.

Should. But won't.

Chris Brown wanted to be like the late King of Pop. Well MiJac never lived down his demons, I'm sorry to say that Breezy's might haunt him from here on out.
